Across various works, I’ve mentioned the different forms my muses tend to take. They are many but one of the most common among them is the veiled unicorn, a muse of passion and raw creativity. This is the part of the muse so many of us chase after and become addicted to. The one that seems to distort reality, pulling us into glorious otherworlds that we had no idea existed within us. This may also be one of the most elusive forms of the muse. For me, this muse is jealous and wild, prone to tempests when I don’t pay enough attention to them. They have little consideration for my time, whispering in my ear during the most inconvenient moments demanding my attention. And if I refuse, they may gallop off and ignore me even once I’ve sat down at my desk, ready to meet them. If this sort of thing has ever happened to you, it may be tempting to wait for the return of your fickle muse but I’ve found that the better trick is to simply get to work regardless. Creativity finds us in surprising moments and the beautiful thing is that we can draw upon it more often than we might think. The muse wants your time, and if you can prove to them that you want theirs as well, they’ll always come back to you in a glorious, fiery reunion.
